- ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪Dr. Kaufman was the pediatric endocrinologist who diagnosed my son Wyatt as a type 1 diabetic in 1991. In the midst of the trauma of receiving that diagnosis, she was kind, compassionate and infinitely patient and professional. I think pediatric endocrinologists must be a higher form of humanity! I am an RN and have never experienced such devotion of time on the part of a doctor, to assure that the patient and the family are well educated and comfortable with how to provide care to a diabetic child. My son today, 24 years later, is active and very healthy. He understands completely how to take care of his diabetes. He has had an insulin pump for about 15 years (since age 18). He works full time at a demanding job, has raced cars, and currently enjoys swing dancing and rock climbing. His A1Cs are in nearly normal range, and he has zero complications from diabetes - normal nerves, eyes, kidneys, circulation.
